For April I was meant to interview D de Carvalho. So here it is!
D de Carvalho is an erotica writer and funny dude who currently identifies as pink flames. Here’s a snapshot of his life:
When did you decide to become a writer?
About a year ago. Actually, my great buddy Francisco Cordoba suggested it to me. We were chatting about his Horsemen of Golegã series, and I was helping him sex up some of his erotic scenes. I tried to put in a BDSM scene which he felt was totally inappropriate for his characters. I pushed the issue. I may have called him a pantywaist. That led to some general argument and insults. By the time the dust settled, he’d challenged me to “write your own damn porn and stop messing with quality”, and I had accepted.
The funny part to that story is that he’s been writing for years and had already put in twelve months on The Horsemen of Golegã. It’s twelve months since he challenged me, and he still isn’t published. But I am.
Hah! Suck on that Cordoba.
Do you write full-time or part-time?
Part-time. The rest of the time, I spend savoring life, fine wine, women, and food.
What part of your writing time do you devote to marketing your book?
My writing time is my writing time and woe betide anyone or anything who interferes when my head’s down and my fingers are flying. When it’s time to market, I market. But the two don’t coincide if I can help it.
What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews?
Reviews are reviews. I think the best approach is either way, do not engage. Thanking for good reviews can make you look like a sycophant, and arguing with bad reviews makes you look like an idiot. I don’t see any good coming out of that. But I’ve heard that bad reviews, really bad ones, can actually improve sales. I imagine I’ll find out about that pretty soon.
What is your favourite motivational phrase.
A native of far-flung locations, and a grade A student of life, Carvalho developed his passion for fine foods and erotic encounters at a young age. He is proud to be a practicing member of the BDSM community, as well as a self-confessed and widely acknowledged grumpy old man.
In the Hot Pink series, D. de Carvalho serves up a smorgasbord of hot ‘n spicy erotic tales with no holds barred. Whether you savor sweet romance or crave the delicious tang of dark desire, Carvalho caters with tales to tempt every taste. Each sexy story arrives with a side order of humor, sprinkled with a touch of suspense, paranormal or mystery.
